As J. Patrick Homes celebrates 35 years of exceptional homebuilding, we’re taking a look at the people and companies who have joined them on their journey. We recently sat down with Lee Morris of HL&P Electric.
As a person who values organization to keep his electrical business running smoothly, Lee Morris appreciates the organized work he sees from J. Patrick Homes.
“They are definitely as organized as I am,” said the founder of HL&P Electric. “I think they also might be the best communicator that I’ve worked with over the past 46 years in this business. And good communication is the name of the game. If I ever have a question, there is always someone I can call. And if they don’t know the answer, they know how to get it.”
Morris says communicating clear expectations with clients and a get-it-done attitude have fueled the success of HL&P Electric, which he launched three years ago after 43 years with another company. Already, the company has four shops in north Houston — a Spring office that handles generator installations, low-voltage projects, and light commercial work, and offices in Conroe, Magnolia, and Humble that focus on residential electrical work from small homes to large custom homes.
“We have about 50 homes a month on our books, so you have to be organized, with the right people in the right places,” Morris said.
HL&P handles all aspects of residential electrical work and is on the job throughout the entire build process.
“We do it all, from installing a temporary electrical pole at the beginning of construction to doing the underground and slab work and all the extras,” he said. “It’s quite a process.”
Having worked with his hands from a young age, Morris said a friend who was an electrician sparked the idea of him entering that field.
“He knew I was always working on stuff in the yard and the barn and thought I’d be good at it.”
Even at the beginning of his career, Morris imagined launching his own company and even picked out a name — HL&P Electric.
“That used to be the power company in Houston when I was young, although they’ve changed the name several times over the years,” Morris said. “When I had the opportunity to fulfill that lifelong dream, I looked up HL&P Electric and it was available.”
Seems like some things are just meant to be.
