A Conversation with the McCulloughs — Seasoned Home Buyers and Happy J. Patrick Homeowners

J. Patrick Homes has sold thousands of homes during its 30+ history. We’re taking a moment to speak with J. Patrick buyers to see why J. Patrick Homes is the builder for them.

Kim and Scott McCullough have bought a lot of homes.

Moving frequently due to Scott’s job and usually building their new home, the couple came to the Houston area from Seattle about seven years ago. Wanting to build in The Lakes of Shadow Creek, but unable to because home sales hadn’t yet started in the new Spring community, they purchased a custom home nearby.

Fast-forward to 2020… development of The Lakes of Shadow Creek was well underway and the McCulloughs started searching for a new home.

“We were looking around but came back to this neighborhood because lots were available,” Kim said. “Knowing J. Patrick Homes built in The Lakes of Shadow Creek, we visited a model of the Amherst design in another community and fell in love. We knew this was the home for us.”

The Amherst checked several boxes for the seasoned homeowners — particularly that it had an open-concept design that allowed for family gatherings, but also enough room for grandchildren to have a space to themselves with an upstairs game room and media room.

“We also love the enclosed courtyard that is in front and visible from the foyer and dining room,” Kim said. “We have an outdoor fireplace and enjoy spending time out there.”

And while this new home isn’t custom, Kim says it feels like it is.

“Building our home was a very good experience,” she said. “They were flexible in allowing buyers to customize their home and the design center was like Christmas — you had the world at your fingertips to do what you want.”

In fact, one of the McCulloughs’ flooring choices was from Italy. Unfortunately, the pandemic interfered.

“We had selected a wood-like tile for downstairs and the color we wanted was stuck on a ship in Italy,” she said. “With just one week to go until the tile needed to be installed, our Sales Professional called and said they had searched the country to find more but were 200 square feet short. They said we could lay down carpet for now so we could close and then they would come back later to install the tile or we could go back to the design center.

“Our Sales Professional was such a wonderful help with this and for the entire build process. We chose the design center and love the new choice more than the first tile we picked. It was a win-win — even with the hiccup of COVID, they were able to give us choices.”
